The BYD Dolphin Mini has been a resounding success in Brazil. From January to October, this ultra-compact hatchback from the Chinese brand sold an impressive 17,809 units, making it the best-selling electric vehicle in Brazil for 2024, as reported by the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave).
A Need for Adjustment
However, success doesn’t mean perfection. One of the key points of contention for the Dolphin Mini in the Brazilian market is the rear suspension, which requires significant modification. The overly soft rear suspension, while popular in China, has not met the expectations of Brazilian consumers, ultimately diminishing the driving experience. Given the substandard asphalt quality on Brazilian streets and highways, the Dolphin Mini tends to experience severe jolts and sways more than anticipated.
It’s crucial to highlight that this issue does not compromise the vehicle’s safety in any way.

BYD’s Response
During the Guangzhou Auto Show, WM1 reported that BYD is committed to addressing this concern. Extensive testing, analysis, and research are currently underway, with continuous updates being sent back to China. Adjustments, which might include modifications to the spring and shock absorber load, are expected. However, these changes will only be implemented when the Dolphin Mini starts production at the Camacari plant in Bahia state. While no specific date has been confirmed, it’s anticipated to happen in 2025. The factory is set to begin operations in March of the following year, with the Song Pro, equipped with a hybrid flexible system, being the first model produced.

Additional Enhancements
Furthermore, the Dolphin Mini is slated to receive other minor enhancements. These improvements will be introduced before the vehicle goes into formal production in Brazil. For instance, a new design for the alloy wheels is expected to be one of the changes for the 2025 models, which will still be imported from China.
The mini dolphin comes in two configurations: a four-seater starting at R$115,800 and a five-seater with a price tag of no less than R$119,800.
